There may be some visitors or new members confused as to what this site is all about. This thread is meant to dispel any confusion and answer any questions I expect you to have about the site.
First of all, when you first read the word "Purviews," I'm sure most of you didn't know what it meant. While there are a few definitions, one in particular was my intention when naming the site. Dictionary.com's second definition for "purview" is this: "The range of vision, insight, or understanding." To explain, this site is a method of displaying your creative vision, insight, and understanding of situations. The entire idea of this place is geared towards letting your imagination explore ideas and have plenty of fun doing it.
Now to explain what we do here at Purviews. First off, this is an RP (Role Playing) forum. For those new to forums in general, a forum is a place where anyone can post a message and others can reply to it. The concept of a Role Playing forum is that a person comes up with a story idea, criteria for joining, and posts the beginning to it in the RP board. Others interested in joining the story that person has come up with may reply to the topic with their own characters in mind. As such, a group begins to collaborate on a single story, together writing to weave together the entire storyline. Don't let "single story" fool you, however. Anyone may join as many RPs (Role Plays. This is usually what we call a group story. You may also see it referred to as an RPG, or Role Playing Game, not to be confused with the popular genre of video games) as they would like. The only catch is that you should try to stay on the ball and involved with every RP that you join and not simply abandon a story without requesting that the author (whoever started the story) make an end to your character in some way (kill them off, for example).
For those creative individuals that are not interested in group RPing, however, I have included in this site a few sections for you. There is a section for short stories if you would like to write your tales solo. There is also a section for poetry and song lyrics if you would like to write those. If you are interested in writing anything at all you should find a place for it here at Purviews.
So for all of you creative minds out there, I wish you good luck and a great enjoyable stay here at the Purviews forum.
