I'll be posting facts and "FAQs" about the world and going-ons in here, and of course answering any questions you have. I like the idea I've seen people do where character profiles go in the OOC section as well, so post those here rather than in the actual RP thread when you make yours.
----------
1. The world's name is "Etra," meaning "eternal" in the ancient language. It is a very lush, green world for the most part, not unlike our Earth in the real world. It has it's deserts, jungles, oceans, mountains, etc. of course but it's definitely quite the green beauty.
2. Most cities and towns are built near a major water source like a sea or river, similar to old colonies.
3. The capital city is Gransia, a central hub for just about everything. As such, it's the closest thing a city can be to a sprawling metropolis in a time before major technological advances. The High Council of the Wise holds important meetings here, as well as many major brozai teams who compete in the world's largest sports stadium, the Gransian Colosseum.
4. The "High Council of the Wise" is composed of one male and one female from each major race (soon to be described). When a council member dies (or in the very rare case, resigns), an appropriate replacement (gender, species, and enough wisdom for their opinion to be valued) is selected to take their place.
5. Transportation is usually done on foot or via a horse-drawn carriage/caravan. Sailing ships are used for water travel (this sounds obvious, but I figured I'd give you an idea as to the technology thus far). On roads or seas, cutthroats and pirates are not uncommon, so defenses against them aren't uncommon either. Trade caravans and wealthy people often hire mercenary protection for their travels.
6. Weaponry is very much an ancient or "medieval" kind of affair. Bladed and blunt weapons, as well as arrows are the majority. No firearms since gunpowder is yet to be invented. Magic is thought of how it is in the real world, in that anytime someone performs magic, it is considered a trick. For most people, magic is assumed as nonexistent. It certainly isn't at the overly showy kind of way most fantasy portrays it. Of course, this also means those that use "real magic" are very rare and almost never believed (since believing in it essentially means you're a gullible fool).
7. The major races are:
A- Humans, who are somewhat known for their high reproduction rate, having average skills in most anything, and having no particular specialty in any one area. Average life spans about 70 years.
B- Leres (pronounced "leerz"), who are a humanoid cat-like race, covered in fur of varying length and color usually determined by genetics. Males are usually much bigger and stronger than their generally small and lithe female counterparts. Leres are known for their grace and agility and a lere's average life spans only about 40-50 years (they grow slightly faster than humans to compensate, but also remain at their prime longer so most leres still die before they look very aged).
C- Luxis ("lucks-iss"), who are a very human-like race in appearance except for their "angelic" feathered wings of varied color and some small variation in size. Luxis are known to be extraordinarily wise and therefore make brilliant strategists and advisers. The opinion of a luxis Council member usually holds more weight among the others in the group but no law grants them more power than the other Council races. Average life spans about 190 years (they grow into their prime slightly slower than humans but remain in it much longer. They usually don't start looking elderly until about 140)
D- Geindens ("gain-dinz"), who are very well known for their immense beauty, confidence, and their long and incredibly strong hair that needs no cutting throughout their lives (though cutting their hair is barely possible and must be done by an expensive professional with especially sharp and sturdy tools). A geinden usually lives to about 220 years old (grow into their mature prime very slowly, reaching their peak adult beauty at 50. They retain this beauty almost until they die. It's rare for a 220 year old to have any gray hair and the worst show of their age may be "crow's feet" at their eyes).
E- Chernolos ("chur-noh-lohz"), who are all noctural and thus see as well in the dark as humans see in the day (and vice-versa, they have difficulty seeing in the light). Their skin is usually dark and mostly colorless, but a chernolo is always entirely hairless. Not needing any hair, a chernolo's body keeps warm using the nutrients that enter the body when it eats. As such, a chernolo can withstand much colder temperatures than any human as long as they have a healthy supply of food. Their average life spans about 90 years (they grow at about the same speed as humans, but when they get older, wrinkles are the only obvious display of their elderly age, not having any hair to turn gray and their bodies almost always in good enough condition to not hunch over from old bones).
8. Some races and cultures forbid interracial relationships while most all frown upon it as a taboo. As such, most everyone in the world is a pureblood and times are not easy by any stretch of the imagination for those that are not.
9. The world's most popular sport and pastime is brozai, a brutal game played in a circular 50 yard by 50 yard field using an 8-inch by 6-inch "capsule" shaped white leather ball. Each team has 6 players on the field (from a team roster of 12-14) at a given time made up of 3 forwards, 3 strikers, and 1 goalkeeper. The forwards pass and carry the ball across the field to throw it into the other team's goal for one point per goal (any goal, including penalty shots, is worth one point on the scoreboard). Strikers use 5 foot long wooden poles wrapped in padding to block passes and shots. They used to be allowed to strike forwards when the game started, but the rules changed about 30 years ago for the players' safety. Strikers are the only position not allowed to touch the brozai ball with their hands at all. The goalkeeper defends his team's 3 yard wide by 2 yard tall goal net from shots, with blocking or catching. The game is divided into three 15-minute "Acts" with 5 minute sideline breaks in between each Act. In the case of a tie at the end of the third Act, a 5 minute "Final Act" is held, in which the winner is declared only at the end of that 5 minutes. If a tie is still met, then the game is decided as a draw for both teams. The game plays during the spring season and following the main season is the biggest game of them all, the "Legend's Cup," which decides the year's league champion.

Like I said, if you have any questions about anything, then please ask here so I can answer for everyone. I'd love to flesh this out as well as possible so any questions about the world, races, brozai, or anything, then let me know in this very thread!
A template for your character (as well as my posted character) to come soon, with the actual RP to be started shortly after.
Speaking of the RP, I'd like to mention that this is pretty much entirely a participant-controlled RP. I will not be the one controlling all the plot points and such. I want YOU to show me what amazing ideas you guys come up with for this world, big and small. Of course if you have any questions or worries about an idea, then feel free to PM me here or IM me on MSN at iamz_2006@yahoo.com.
