A somewhat condense and immensely more interesting telling of Vurralian History
then the stuff you get out of dry, dusty, old tomes.

At the turn of the fifteenth century Vurr was a world dominated by science and technology, its people a war-like race, each convinced of their own superiority. It was this attitude that eventually led to the construction of the Golems. Titanic machines of immense power, waging war across continents, skies and oceans. The battles were ferocious leaving in their wake barren wastelands that held nothing but death. For decades the wars waged until finally the world could take no more.
The First Cataclysim began as the western continent known as Lothal split into three creating vast oceanic channels between them those land would later be called The Tri-Lands. To the east the smaller content of Gallanon was seized with destructive volcanic activity as volcanoes long thought extinct exploded into life raining fire and ash across the land sinking parts of it even as new regions were born, created by the molten rock that poured headlong into the ocean. To the south the Isles of Rethalo were born, rising out of the ocean as the continental plates shifted and heaved.
In the end, the face of Vurr was so dramatically altered that it would never again be the same and the Golems that had triggered the destruction were swallowed by oceans and molten rock, never to rise again. The continental upheaval lasted for almost a hundred years and probably wouldn’t have lasted so long were it not for the forces unleashed by the sudden shift.
Magic, long ago sealed beneath the planets crust now boiled to the surface infusing the land with its power and bringing back to life the forests, plains and mountains devastated by the war and the continental upheaval. It accelerated what should have taken centuries to restore and was ultimately what saved the survivors of The First Cataclysm from certain death. For they could not survive upon a barren world.
Much was lost in that first century as the survivors began to build again adjusting to this new change in their world and adapting what small amount of technology that survived for use in a world now brimming with mana. What they didn’t know at the time was something else had also been released. Something ancient, powerful and evil.
Demons they were called. Ethereal beings spoken of in the Vurralian Codex, an ancient holy book that had existed long before science. The book described them as devourers of souls who sought out knowledge for it was the source of their power. The more they knew the stronger they became. In the years that followed countless more lives were lost as friends and family went through dramatic changes, possessed by the Demons who in turn took possession of their bodies so that they might interact with the physical world.
Monsters began to appear not long after killing people or destroying homes and in some cases villages if they could not be repelled.
It was not until the Sages began to harness the magical energies that sustained their world and use them against the fiends giving rise to the first Sorcerers of Vurr selected from among those born with the potential for its use that they were repelled.
Beaten but not defeated the demons withdrew and began to move in secret allowing the memories of them to fade from the minds of the common people. Allowing them to grow in knowledge so that when they began to more openly once more the sages and their pet sorcerers could not stop them. They would wait and watch for the right moment to strike and then the world would be theirs.
