Ok to save time I've moved the 'new' working of my Althea info/idea stuff up here so you don't have to keep scrolling down to find it.
[glow=blue,2,300]UPDATES[/glow]
8/8/08
- A new race has been added: The Dragons[/b]
-Places of Interest-
Althea: A sprawling archaic city ruled by a race of peculiar beings known as The Althane. It is situated along the coast of a large island and all but impossible to reach thanks to the powerful magic of The Althane. One can only reach Althea if one is invited.
Umbral: Once an ancient ruin built long ago upon the bleak island to the west of Lyranis near The Ring of Storms. It has been rebuilt by Xeris the Lost and is now his seat of power. It is also the centre of the Cult of Dread and the one place few people willingly go as those that do are never seen again.
The Ring of Storms:[/i] A band of very violent and very deadly storms that encircles The Western Lands of Territh. Because of the storms it is all but impossible to reach without aid of the Way-gates. Powerful portals created by The Althane long before any sentient beings walked The Eastern Lands.
Territh: The name of the world in which they live.
The Pit: Terrin equivalent of Hell.
The Warren/Spider’s Den: Ancestral home of The Widow and her monstrous Brood. The Warren itself is a vast network of caverns that honeycomb much of the Chymeran Range. Only the foolishly brave or those seeking their death enter the Spider’s Den for the monstrous Brood do not hesitate to kill anything that moves.
The Eastern Lands:[/i] All the territories upon the eastern continent of Territh ruled by a collective body of warlords from the various tribes that exist there. This is called The Council.
Lyranis: The central continent of The Eastern Lands
Chymeran Range: An immense mountain range that runs through the heart of The Eastern Lands beginning in the south and ending at the edge of Winterbridge. The thick forests that grow at its base are still untouched thanks mostly to the threat of The Widow and her Brood.
Winterbridge: The frozen plains of northern Lyranis in The Eastern Lands, ruled by The Warlord Minerva.
Frostguard:[/b] A small city in the Region of Winterbridge. Second only to Minerva’s Capital.
Hunters Vale:[/b] A vast valley west of The Chymeran Range where the lush green forests of The Vale and its grasslands are protected from the Brood by the swift flowing water of The Sentinel’s River. Ruled by The Warlord Yaegar.
Greystone Isle: Largest Island in the Eastern Lands situated to the northeast of Umbral. It is so named for the daunting grey rocks that cover its coast. One of the few places to employ ships. Ruled by The Warlord Alexander.
Port Brinecliff:[/b] The primary port city of Greystone Isle, also ships provisions to Umbral.
The Western Lands: All the territories of the western continents encircled by The ring of Storms and watched over by The Althane.
-Races-
The Althane: An ancient and mystical race of beings whom watch over The Western Lands protected within The Ring of Storms. They rule the city of Althea under the watchful eye of their Guardians. Little is known about The Althane as they rarely have contact with other races.
Guardians:[/b] They are the law keepers of Althea and answer only to The Althane. Guardians are an artificial race born of the arcane arts of The Althane and the ancient metal workings of the Dragnarr. Many have considered them to be golems but unlike other constructs Guardians are capable of expressing themselves in varying degrees of emotion. They are also referred to as ‘metal with soul.’
Dragnarr:[/b] A race of powerful warriors and battle-mages that though human in appearance are anything but. A Dragnarr is recognisable by four traits; Eyes that change colour depending on the mood of the individual, elongated canines. Gold-tan coloured skin and an almost feverish body-temperature.
The Dragnarr are almost as recluse as The Althane keeping mostly to themselves. Their metal smithing skill is one of the greatest in all Territh. Weapons and armour of Dragnarr making are said to be infused with the spirit of the flame making them all but resistant to all fire but the heat of the forge that birthed it and the breath of a dragon.
Tiglin: A race of small humanoids who resemble cats. They grow no taller then two feet and are covered in a robin-egg blue coloured fur, broken by bold white stripes and hair. They’re eyes are all but completely black but for their irises which are a startling blood-red. The males of the Tiglin have a pair of stubby black horns. They are also capable of jumping four times their height and have lightning-fast reflexes. They are native to The Western Lands.
The K’ee a.k.a Boarmen:[/b] A volatile and savage humanoid race that thrives on warfare. Bearing a close resemblance to wild pigs the K’ee are often referred to as Boarmen. While naturally rotund in build Boarmen are immensely strong and stand on average at around six-and-a-half-feet. They are not very intelligent and have a tendency to smell. The K’ee tribes are native to The Eastern Lands.
The V’shar:[/b] A race of shape-shifters, what the V’shar truly look like is unknown. Capable of assuming any shape they so wish it is impossible to tell when you are in the presence of one. Where they came from, how many there are or what they want is unknown though a rare few have been known to take up with individuals of other groups.
The Unheard: A shadowy race of beings that are said to have ties to The Pit. Feared and despised by all they live in never-ending night, unable to come out in the day for the sunlight kills them. What they look like is unknown as they are always seen wearing heavy layers of dark cloth. The only visible part of them is their eyes and they glow an eerie white.
They are so named because of their ability to move about in complete silence. The Unheard make no tangible sound as they move about and what is even eerier is their ability to appear anywhere at any time. They are alleged to no one but themselves, bartering in information and magical objects. There are some who say The Unheard also deal in other things, such as souls.
The Widow: a legendary creature said to be the last of her kind. Few had ever seen here but it is suspected that she is a spider-like creature of titanic proportions living deep within the heart of The Chymeran Range. She is perhaps as old as The Althane but like them little is truly known about her only that she created the Brood to tend and protect her in her long sleep deep within the bowls of the earth where she dreams.
Her dreams are said to be visions of the past, present and future and it is the lure of her knowledge that has drawn many to an untimely death at the claws of her children.
The Brood: Monstrous spider creatures that can be as small as a cat or a towering nine feet tall. They are varying in shape from appearing perfectly spider like for the smaller ones to a hideous mix of man and arachnid.
The smaller more spider-like ones are no less deadly then their larger brothers and sisters as a single bite can induce what is known as the ‘cold death’. The flesh begins to cool and the body slows so they might take the victim deep into The Warren where they can later be digested.
The larger ones have the lower body of a spider and the upper body of a man or woman but instead of skin they are covered in a thick carapace that deflects most mundane weapons. Before The Age of Conquest the Dragnarr of Lyranis used to actively hunt the Brood and thus ensure their numbers were kept to a minimum but when Kystur Oathbreaker destroyed his kin when they rose up against him the brood has been left to spread out further into the land. It is not uncommon for a brood hunter to be sighted in settlements up to two miles away from the forests edge.
Mygenn: A matriarchal society bound to the ways of faith and magic. Whether they originate in the east or the west is unknown. What is know is they possess considerable skill in magic. It is all but impossible to tell the difference between a Mygenn and any other human being unless of course one has paid considerable attention to the passing of years. The Mygenn are very long lived and have yet to be controlled by The Council.
*NEW* The Dragons: Ancient beasts of power and knowledge. They are considered the second sentient race to have cone into existence upon Territh. Once they flew across the skies of Territh for not even the ring of storms could prevent them from flying the globe if they so chose. As time went on as other races began to emerge their numbers slowly began to decline, why this happened is unknown.
The Age of Conquest upon The Eastern Lands was the hardest blow of all, for many dragons were slain not only by the hoards of the council but the dark magic of Xeris The Lost. It is believed that no single dragon now lives within The Eastern Lands and those few who exist in the West mourn their loss still to this day.
-Mysticism, Magic and other things of interest-
Cult of Dread: A religious cult founded by Xeris when he completed the reconstruction of Umbral. What their purpose is remains widely unknown. What is known is that they took their name from The Wandered known as The Dread and wait patiently for its re-emergence. They are powerful sorcerers and have little or no regard for the life of others. They exist solely to serve their master Xeris the Lost.
Night Mother: She governs all things of the night, fertility and the powers of life and death. Her symbol is a black crescent moon against white.
Dawn King: He governs the aspects of truth, balance and justice. His symbol is a white sun with a black sword at its heart.
Way-gates:[/b] Essentaly portals that connect the East to the West, bypassing The Ring of Storms. Originally built by The Althane they are the only means of communication between the Eastern and Western Lands of Territh. All Way-gates appear as a kind of shrine, one has merely to touch the alter to be transported to the connecting point on the other side.
All known Way-gates are carefully guarded by The Council to prevent their people from using them to escape. All use of the way-gates in The Eastern Lands must be sanctified by The Warlord of that particular territory, any attempts to use them without permission warrants immediate death.
The Council/Warlords:[/b] The ruling body of The Eastern Lands. Each territory is represented by their Warlords. In the case of all races bar the humans this means they are represented by one. The humans whom are so numerous and divided amidst themselves are represented by three warlords, each of which holds a sizable piece of the Eastern Lands for themselves.
By means of the darkest arts all the Warlords have lived beyond their natural span of years ensuring their continual dominion upon The Eastern Lands. How they have achieved this is unknown. Each Warlord has also been granted a dark gift along with their immortality which in turn only bolsters their hold upon their dominion.
-The Warlords of Territh-
The Age of Conquest: Refers to the hundred years in which The Council waged war from one end of The Eastern Lands to the other as they set out to bring the inhabitants of their territories under their reign. It was a bloody and chaotic century in which much was lost. Three hundred years later The Eastern Lands are still feeling the effects.
The Wanderers:[/b] A group of thirteen constellations that randomly appear in the heavens. When and where they appear is unknown as nobody can predict their appearance. The frequency in which the constellation appears varies from group to group, some appearing more readily then other. Of all the constellations The Dread is the most infrequent, said to have appeared only three times in almost five millennia. It is sometimes called 'The Omen' for its appearance in the heavens above has heralded a disaster.
It is also said that those born under certain constellations are blessed—or in some cases cursed—with unique abilities though this has yet to be actually proven.
